Aegibong Peace Ecology Park in Gimpo is one of the most accessible DMZ viewpoints from Seoul, where you can look directly across at North Korea’s Gaepung County just 1.4 km away. The Jogang Observatory’s rooftop deck — Rooftop154 — offers an unobstructed panoramic view of the Han River estuary and the landscape beyond the border.

Located in a civilian control zone north of the Han River, the park combines a peace exhibition center, themed gardens, a 112-meter suspension bridge, and a forest walkway leading up to the main observatory. From central Seoul, you can reach it in about 60–80 minutes via the Gimpo Gold Line metro or regional buses.

Aegibong Peace Park: 7 North Korea Viewing Spots

  • Rooftop154 (2nd-floor outdoor deck of Jogang Observatory) — The headline viewpoint. North Korea’s Gaepung County sits just 1.4 km across the river. Free telescopes and children’s step platforms are provided. Use your phone’s 0.5x ultra-wide to frame the railing, sky, and Jogang River together; switch to 2x–3x for portrait shots to compress the North Korean backdrop dramatically. On clear days, Songak Mountain is visible to the naked eye.
  • Jogang Observatory 1F Peace Education Hall — Floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows plus documentary footage about Gaepung County. Best option when wind or cold makes the rooftop uncomfortable. Great for visitors who want context alongside the view.
  • Peace Ecology Exhibition Center — Explores the ecology of the Jogang River area and Kimpo’s history. Visiting before heading to the observatory makes the landscape more meaningful.
  • Mid-trail Angle Views (ecology trail) — The path between the exhibition center and observatory offers multiple river-facing viewpoints with fewer crowds and better photographic angles than the top.
  • 112-meter Suspension Bridge — Links the themed garden to the Sky Forest Garden. The swaying deck makes for dynamic travel photos that capture a sense of movement.
  • Sky Forest Garden — A Christmas-tree-inspired zigzag trail leading up to the observatory. Every bend frames a usable shot; the entire section functions as a walking photo set.
  • Observatory Café & Starbucks — The 2nd-floor café serves drinks with a river view. Starbucks Gimpo Aegibong branch operates 10:00–16:30 (extended during special events); park admission required for entry.

Best Weather Conditions for Aegibong DMZ Viewpoint

  • The day after rain (dust washed away, visibility sharply increased)
  • Clear, dry winter or early spring days (maximum range)
  • Moderate wind days (comfortable rooftop dwell time)
