② Biseondae stroll: light foliage walkers

Sogongwon to Biseondae is about 3 km each way; allow roughly two hours round trip plus rests. Wear walking shoes and allow more time for slippery or uneven sections. The mix of bedrock, stream and maple at the entrance of Cheonbuldong Valley is one of the most photogenic stretches on the Gangwon Autumn Foliage Road. ② Seonjae trail: a foliage tunnel along the valley

According to KTO travel articles, the Seonjae trail follows a valley from Woljeongsa to Sangwonsa, measured at 10.7 km / about 4 hours from the ticket gate. The Woljeongsa–Sangwonsa forest section alone is about 9 km. For a one-way walk, confirm the actual return bus and last departure or prearrange a taxi; do not assume a vehicle will be waiting. Demand spikes during foliage season, so build in extra time.

③ Woljeongsa cultural-heritage fee was abolished

A government release notes that the abolition of cultural-heritage admission fees from May 2023 was cited as a driver of higher visitor numbers at Woljeongsa. Parking, however, is separate: the Woljeongsa info page lists parking fees in the KRW 3,000–9,000 range depending on vehicle and season. Free admission is not the same as completely free — keep parking in the budget.

The following 2025 dates are historical examples; use the current park notice for the actual trip. 2025 references list the autumn fire-prevention period as Nov 1 – Dec 15, with selected national parks under trail closure from Nov 15 – Dec 15 (Seoraksan and Odaesan included). In November 2025 there was an actual closure notice from Odaesan National Park citing fire prevention.
