Pohang Space Walk Night View Guide: 9 Photo Spots + Camera Tips
Pohang Space Walk night view is a walkable steel-loop sculpture standing on the Hwanho Park hill, looking out over Yeongil Bay. The track runs 333 meters with 717 steps, and right after sunset the lighting lines turn it into a “futuristic city above the sea”. This guide covers operating hours, magic hour timing, 9 photo spots, ISO and shutter settings for both phone and mirrorless, parking and bus routes, plus the wind and rain auto-closure rules you should know before you drive out.
Pohang Space Walk night view — hours, holidays, fee, height limit

The first thing to confirm is seasonal hours and access controls. Entry is free, but capacity is capped at 150 people simultaneously and the gate auto-closes during heavy rain or strong wind, so a quick weather check before leaving is essential.

| Time slot | Sculpture lighting | Stair lighting |
|---|---|---|
| Sunset – 22:00 | 100% (sharpest night view) | 100% |
| 22:00 – 24:00 | 50% (moody tone) | 50% |
| 24:00 – sunrise | 20% (post-processing required) | OFF |
Pohang Space Walk night view magic hour — first 30 minutes after sunset
The strongest results come from the 30 minutes immediately after sunset — the magic hour or blue hour window. The sky still has a deep navy hue while the 100% lighting kicks in, so a single frame captures both afterglow and lit structure with real depth.
Plan for 19:30–20:30 in summer and 17:30–18:30 in winter as the magic hour band. On weekends and holidays a queue starts forming 30–40 minutes before sunset, so aim to arrive at least 30 minutes before sunset if you want that window. On weekdays, 10–15 minutes before sunset is usually enough.
There is no live crowd indicator on site, so check Kakao Map reviews and Instagram tags (#pohangspacewalk #포항야경) 1–2 hours ahead. To pair this with another east-coast night route, see Pohang Gyeongju 2 Nights 3 Days Course.
Pohang Space Walk night view — 9 photo spots by composition

The Pohang Space Walk night view photo spots can be grouped into 9 positions across entrance, mid-track, summit and outer trail. Same scene, but the position changes the mood completely.
| # | Spot | Composition | Setting tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Entrance first frame | Full body / couple | 0.5x ultra-wide, vertical |
| 2 | Loop symmetry | Hero shot #1 | Centered symmetry, silhouette (do NOT climb the loop) |
| 3 | Looking up from below | Curve line shot | 1–3 sec long exposure with tripod, phone night mode |
| 4 | On-track detail | Handrail, shoes | Wrist strap, never extend phone past railing |
| 5 | Summit panorama | 360° pano | Horizontal pano, person on one edge |
| 6 | Right after sunset | Blue hour | ISO 200–800, shutter 1–2 sec |
| 7 | After 22:00 | 50% mood shot | Silhouette + line emphasis |
| 8 | After 24:00 | 20% mood | Post-processing required, tripod a must |
| 9 | Hwanho Park trail | Whole + sea | Space Walk + Yeongil Bay in one frame |
The most consistent results come from spot 3 (curve line) and spot 6 (blue hour). For an Instagram hero, spot 2 loop symmetry is best (loop body climbing forbidden); for friend or family portraits, spot 1 entrance wide is the safest pick.
Pohang Space Walk night view shooting tips — phone and mirrorless settings
Memorising a few setting numbers before you arrive saves a lot of trial and error on site. Phone night mode and mirrorless / DSLR manual mode are split below.
- Smartphone — Night mode ON, keep ISO low (auto 100–400), self-timer 2–3 sec. A small phone tripod removes shake instantly.
- Mirrorless / DSLR — F8–F11, ISO 400–800, shutter 1–4 sec. Start at 1 sec at magic hour and stretch to 2–4 sec as the afterglow fades. White balance at tungsten (3000–3500K) brings out the cool tone.
- Three reliable compositions — Perspective (stairs front + sea back), leading line (light line diagonal), full silhouette (structure + sky). Stability ranking: leading line > perspective > silhouette.
- Person + night view — Avoid strong backlight or the face goes black. A small side fill from your phone flashlight rescues the face. The outer platform before the stair entry gives the cleanest background.

Pohang Space Walk night view access — parking, bus, walking routes
The Space Walk sits on top of Hwanho Park hill, so every parking option has a short uphill walk. Routes by car, bus and KTX are split below.
| From | Method | Walk / time |
|---|---|---|
| Museum parking (Hwanho-dong 369-2) | Self drive (free) | 6–12 min walk (uphill) |
| Park main lot (Hwanho-dong 323-3) | Self drive (free) | 6–12 min walk |
| Dumuchi parking (across Duho-dong 156) | Self drive (free) | ~5 min walk (uphill) |
| Pohang Station (KTX) | Taxi | ~15 min / KRW 8,000–10,000 |
| Pohang downtown (multiple stops) | Bus 207 / 302 / 600 / 900 / Yangdeok 1,3 / 9000 | Get off at Hwanho Park entrance |

On weekend night windows the main park lot fills first. If you are arriving after 19:00, prioritise Dumuchi parking, then museum parking. If anyone in the group has weak knees, Dumuchi has the shortest walk distance.
Pohang Space Walk night view safety — wind and rain auto-closure checklist
Because the route auto-closes in strong wind or rain, running through a quick checklist before you leave saves wasted trips. Spring and autumn evenings also drop in temperature fast after sunset, so a light jacket is almost mandatory.
- Wind check — KMA app: wind ≥ 8m/s likely triggers closure
- Rain check — Rain forecast means slippery surfaces; umbrella is impractical on the track
- Outfit — Sneakers required, no heels or slippers. A jacket for spring or autumn evenings.
- Safety rules — Under 12 needs guardian, no knives or weapons, never lean over the railing
- Backup plan — If closed, switch to Jukdo Market night market or Yeongildae Beach
Save Jukdo Market (~10 min by car) and Yeongildae Beach night promenade (~5 min by car) as bookmarks in advance. If the Space Walk gate is closed when you arrive, you can swap routes immediately without losing the night-tour mood. For a multi-day Pohang plan, see the Pohang Gyeongju 2 Nights 3 Days Course.
